Fostering partnerships between a US corporate foundation and non-profit actors across Europe.
Mondelez International Foundation is the corporate foundation of Mondelez, a US-American multinational confectionery, food and beverage company with revenues of approximately USD 30bn and 100,000 employees worldwide.
Mondelez International Foundation had committed itself to fight malnutrition, hunger and obesity worldwide. To realise its mission internationally, the foundation wanted to expand its activities to further countries in Europe.
Beyond Philanthropy supported the client by identifying appropriate non-profit organisations from the healthy lifestyle sector in Germany, France, Spain and Italy to join the foundation’s global partnership programme. Starting with a thorough screening exercise, Beyond Philanthropy shortlisted suitable candidates and managed the grant application process that followed. Subsequently, Beyond Philanthropy helped to administer the grants and designed monitoring and reporting tools for evaluating the programmes’ impact.
With the help of Beyond Philanthropy, the Mondelez International Foundation entered reliable partnerships with four European non-profit organisations, providing funding of USD 1.5m to each organisation over a three-year grant period. After a highly successful alliance with a German partner organisation based in Nuremberg, Klasse2000, the funding has been renewed for another three years. The alliance between Mondelez and its non-profit partners has become a best-practice case for how the private and non-profit sectors can work together to bring about social change.
